The Benefits of Surface Dressing

The Road Emulsion Association (REA) and the Road Surface Treatments Association (RSTA) have jointly produced a new animated video highlighting the benefits of Surface Dressing.
The video was launched at the RSTA Spring Conference and will be distributed to all interested parties and particularly Highways Committee representatives in Local Authorities and Councils.

New Member of the Road Emulsion Association Limited

The Road Emulsion Association Limited is pleased to announce the addition of a new member company to the association. The new member company is PolyBitumens which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Eurovia UK. PolyBitumens commissioned emulsion production at their new manufacturing facilities early in 2019. The production of emulsion materials at PolyBitumens in Thurrock, Essex, will be used on various road improvement schemes in southern England, the Home Counties and in Greater London.
As a member of the Road Emulsion Association, Polybitumens will contribute to all the future activities of the Road Emulsion Association with Paul Goosey, (Managing Director), being appointed as a Director of the REA and the company member representative on the REA Council. Jonathan Core, (Technical Director), will become a member of the REA Technical Committee and Paul Kimber, (Divisional Manager), will be the representative on the REA HSE Forum Group.
With PolyBitumens as a new emulsion producer in the UK, and now a member of the association, the Road Emulsion Association continues to represent the interests and activities of this important industry sector and will maintain its position as the key trade association promoting the benefits of bitumen emulsion products in the UK.
Are Your Roads Bonded?

Following the successful REAL Bond Coat Video launched in 2017 an additional supporting note has been published identifying the performance benefits of using Bond Coats to bind the road layers together. A winter of high rainfall and cold temperatures has resulted in further deterioration to our roads and more pot holes having to be filled. The correct use of bond coat will help reduce this problem and extend the structural life of the road. See the “Publications” page.

RSTA SHE Seminar – 22nd November 2017

Bond Coat Video

The new REA bond coat video is now available to view on the video page of the REA website. The video will be shared with other key organisations and businesses to help promote the benefits of using this key component in the construction and maintenance the highway network across the UK.
New REAL Website Launched

The Road Emulsion Association Ltd has engaged with Ace Computer Support Ltd for the development of a new REA website. The website was launched on the 4th April 2017 and the REA would welcome feedback from visitors to the site.

New Code of Practice

A new industry Code of Practice (CoP) has been developed in conjunction with the RSTA for the safe control of the transfer of emulsion product from a delivery tanker into a road sprayer. The new CoP will be introduced from the start of the 2017 surface dressing season. Further reference to the CoP can be found in the Health & Safety section of the REA website and the full CoP is available in the Publications section.
