Code of Good Practice for the use & safety of Mobile Storage Tanks
30th April 2014
The Road Emulsion Association has updated its “Code of Good Practice for the use & safety of Mobile Storage Tanks” in readiness for the 2014 surfacing season. Mobile Storage Tanks are transported to construction sites throughout the UK where they are used to aid road surfacing work. After the Tanks are installed they are periodically filled with bitumen emulsion binder, which is drawn off for use in local highway construction and maintenance contracts. REA first developed the Code of Good Practice in the mid 1990s and the 2014 Code replaces that last revised in 2011. The Code aids the safe operation of works; and safety of members of the public; highway authorities and contractors, when in close proximity to Mobile Storage Tanks.
A copy of the latest 2014 version of the Code is available as a PDF file on the “Publications” page of this website.

As part of the on-going review of European standards a new version of BS EN 13808 that specifies cationic bitumen emulsions was published on 30 September 2013. This document supercedes BS EN 13808:2005 and BS EN 14733:2005=A1:2010.
REA gives more detail on this revised standard in Press Release No 14 on the Press Releases page of this website.
CE Marking becomes mandatory
1st July 2013
The UK was one of four countries in the European Union where CE marking of construction products had been voluntary. However, a new Regulation has replaced the old Construction Products Directive and lays out conditions for its implementation. It is now mandatory for construction products falling under the scope of the Regulation to have a declaration of their performance, and to carry the CE marking to demonstrate this, before they can be put on the market. The CE Mark had to be affixed by the end of June 2013 as a result all REA members have completed CE Marking administration etc by that significant date.
REA gives more detail on CE Marking process in Press Release No 13 on the Press Releases page of this website.
