We’ve been working collaboratively with industry colleagues to engage with key national decision-makers on how to future-proof our local roads.

The Road Emulsion Association recently joined over 70 Members of Parliament from across the UK, who attended a busy drop-in session hosted by the RAC.

Many MPs rightly wanted to know what industry is doing to address the pothole crisis, and how MPs can help with communicating key messages to local authority officers.

All MPs were extremely interested in their own constituencies, particularly on how the road condition has been measured. They also wanted to understand how roads in their area are performing.

We explained the categorisation of RED, AMBER & GREEN, and how increasing the level of preventative measures and sustained investment, at the correct intervention levels, will support improving the road network and how it can reduce the formation of potholes.

MPs were highly engaged in our work and had the chance to speak with industry experts from the REA, Road Surface Treatments Association, Asphalt Industry Alliance and Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE).

Together, we were able to provide complementary advice on how we invest and manage road assets in their constituency, primarily through preventative treatments such as surface dressing, micro surfacing and other preservation techniques.

Managing Director for Eurovia, Paul Goosey said, “We were delighted to have Minister Lilian Greenwood MP attend the event, which was a real highlight.

“The Minister taking time out of her busy business schedule to support pothole fixing, and a preventative road maintenance approach, was really appreciated.”
