Future – proofing

our local roads

The Road Emulsion Association (REA) is calling on highway authorities to future-proof local roads through preventative maintenance methods such as surface dressing.

“Good roads” do exist

Our campaign, Futureproofing Our Local Roads, is all about promoting preventative highways maintenance solutions and how councils can keep their roads in good* condition.

Rather than focusing on the negatives, we want to celebrate the positive steps some local highway authorities have taken to reduce potholes in their area.

We acknowledge we have a long way to go to improve most roads across the country, but there are pockets of best practice we think deserve to be shared industry-wide.

Case studies

Our bank of case studies tells the story of how planned preventative maintenance as part of a highways strategy extends the life of roads. This approach is more cost-effective, more sustainable and safer for road users.
